Community Dolphin Census Event Coming Together Swimmingly

This Sunday, the Marine Parks Association will be overseeing the 2015 Port Stephens Community Dolphin Census. We have been blown away by the community support in the lead up to the event, with over 50 people already registered to take part.

The census will take place between 11am-12pm on Sunday, with participants lining the shore and locations on the water to monitor, record information and photograph the dolphins they encounter. The outlook for Sunday could not be more ideal; sunny skies, calm seas and a light NW wind all make for perfect dolphin spotting conditions. It's not too late to register to take part in the 2015 Community Census, simply visit www.marineparksassociation.org.au , complete the registration form and download the participants information pack! If the Community Dolphin Census has wet your appetite for more dolphin and whale friendly activities, there's lots happening around the Bay this weekend! Today, Jeannie Lawson will be running a series of Whale Talks at Barry Park, kicking off at 10.30am. Join Jeannie and spot the majestic Humpbacks as they pass our shores and learn about their journey. On Monday, Port Stephens Naturefest will wrap up with the traditional Human Whale Event on Shoal Bay Beach. During the event, participants will form the outline of a 100-metre-long humpback whale. This year, it is expected to draw a record 1000-plus crowd and will be photographed by a helicopter hovering overhead. Registration begins at 10am on the day of the event. More information about Whale Talks and the Human Whale can be found at www.portstephens.org.au
